A term usually deployed from the outside, claimed here from within. The men in this catalog were handed a specific set of tools — don't flinch, don't tell, don't need anyone — and those tools kept them alive before they started costing them marriages, sleep and access to their own children. This title does not scold. It examines equipment. That is the crucial difference and the reason it belongs in Street Gospel rather than a lecture.
What came after is the slow, unglamorous work of figuring out which parts of the armor were load-bearing and which were just weight, and admitting that a man can spend thirty years unable to tell the two apart.
