The intro is four words repeated like an accusation: you act brave when you're really moving cautious. Everything after is a man sorting people by whether they have taken damage. He is tired of being called cold-hearted, tells you not to try turning him off once he is started, and then produces the evidence — a friend whose head was blown off looking through a peephole, a cage he came out of in beast mode, a weight nobody can calculate.
The mechanic is authentication. He is not bragging about violence; he is checking credentials, and the standard he applies is cost. You cannot rent a reputation when the moment gets dire. You cannot split the reward if you never took damage. He walks through the exact failure points — light hitting a face in interrogation, cuffs on ribs revealing what a man is, someone giving statements with who, what and where.
The men he will move with are the ones who made peace with the cost, not the ones considering exits mid-play. And the loneliest line comes near the end: a younger man watched him and tried to copy, but same words carry different weight, and his land heavy because he lived that fate. What it cost was everyone who could not pass the test. What came after is a much smaller room.
Can't split the reward if you ain't take damage
The sound
Key map runs Em7/Em9 to Em, Gm, Am, Cm, Dm and back — descending, no relief. Kick and rim only, sparse piano voicings, guitar as low texture, the tenor restrained and certain throughout.
