What keeps the record from being a simple victory lap is a single admission buried in verse one: success created distance, and now people think he has no friends. He cannot remember his enemies. He remembers what he bought. He remembers every war.

That is the mechanic — a man whose memory has reorganized itself around transactions because the relationships did not survive the climb. "Couldn't bring 'em with me — they watched the whole transition." He is second generation out the projects and says he has not forgotten, but the line that follows is the tell: they said he would be nothing, so look at him now, and the proof he reaches for is his mother's pride.

What it cost was the room full of people who knew him before. What came after is a man taking flights alone and calling it the life he likes.
